Does anyone have a better solution to removing the Documens folder from the start menu? I recently reformatted and am setting things back to where they were. The last time I reformatted I used TweakUI to get rid of the folder but I've downloaded it 3 times and every time the tweakinf. file is missing so I can't run the program. I also read that you can click on Properties after you right click the Start button but that option isn't there. Its just annoying, things get added to it and it just gets bigger, lol. Thanx in advance if anyone has a solution. Remember, its Winme.

Right click the Task Bar / properties/ Start menu Tab / Customize Button / Advanced - Scroll down Locate the folder items you dont want displayed and select " Dont Display this item" - OK then OK again and the folder will disappear.

When I click on Properties on the Taskbar the only options I have are General and advanced. The only option I have in Advanced for Documents is to expand it. There is no customizing. Do you know of any powertoy equivalent to Tweakui? Thanks for responding.

Have a read of This (http://www.pctools.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-19865.html) and This (http://www.helpwithwindows.com/windows98/tune-25.html) <--- thats 98 but ME was just about the same as 98 except a few more features, and troubles. OR This here (http://www.helpwithwindows.com/windows98/tweakui2000.html) - but use with Caution - read the article ORhave a look Here as well (http://www.pctools.com/guides/registry/detail/548/)

Thanks for all your help, wainuitech, the link I got via email for Tweakui worked fine and the dreaded Documents on Start menu is gone. The internet would be hell without guys like you and others like you. Thanks again

Hi,
I have the opposite problem.
My "recently used documents" has gone from my start menu.
The folder is still in "docs and settings" but no recently docs are being put in there and "docs" are not displayed on the start menu.

How do I get them back ??

Cheers,
Phil.

Oop's running win 2k pro.

Whats the OS jupiter ?? OOPS- didn't see the edit

Dont have the time to check at the moment ( got a job to go to) - but look at These instructions (http://www.daniweb.com/forums/thread4598.html) ( scroll down towards the bottom) they are for XP, but since XP was built off of Win2000 the menu may be the same.

OR Go Here (http://www.computerhope.com/download/win2k.htm) - Utilities / TweakUI

Thanks again wainuitech, my 'puters running like new. Thinking back, I kind of think Yahoo Messenger had something to do with all my problems. For no reason the Messenger icon would replace the word START on my start menu as soon as I signed in. When I signed out, any other thing I opened would take Messengers place on the START button. If I didn't open Messenger at all, all was well. It was all downhill once that started. I just Googled Yahoo Messenger virus and was amazed by all the nasties that can be associated with it. Anyway, thanks for your time and help.

Hi,
daniweb instructions seem not to be applicable to win2k pro (sp4). They certainly didn't work as described.

I all ready have tweakui installed but using that doesn't fix the problem unfortunately.
Cheers,
Phil.

Dont have a Win2000 PC operational at the moment to check - stripped it for parts  But have a look at the quoted Text below and see if any of the settings are there in the menus listed that you can change
To clear Recent Documents list (for Windows 2000):

• Select Start - > Settings and then select Taskbar & Start Menu.
• Open the Advanced tab.
• In Customize Start menu click the "Clear" button.

Using ClearAllHistory you can easily clear Recently opened documents list (My recent documents) located in the Start menu. Using "Disable Recent documents" option you can disable the recent used documents from access without deleting the list of recently used documents. See if the Disable Recent Documents is ticked, if it is untick it.
