I'm trying to recover files off a hard drive with an unusable os. Using puppy linux, after removing the boot disk I cannot mount the drive to copy the files. any ideas?
Thanks Tone

If it's just the OS thats corrupt and not the hdd itself, why not just plug it in as a slave to a windows machine and copy the files over...

The other machine is too far away. How do you connect anyway? usb to usb? Thanks

Put it into a case enclosure or get an adapter.
You might want to use ubuntu or knoppix live cd cause they recognise NTFS partitions and don't require manual mounting

Boot to the Dos prompt using the XP or Vista recovery disk and use the Xcopy command to copy over the files to another drive? Worked once for me when my Vista install decided to call it a day and refused to boot.

Thanks folks. No recovery disk. The machine only has 128m of ram so I need a small live os that allows me to save back to the optical drive

Any linux CD will do it if you don't have one the mag dvd's all have it on usually it just needs the iso burnt to cd first
