Download FF3 from here (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/).

Also post a HijackThis (http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis) log, so we can see what's going on on the PC.

Defrag the hdd then, it may help

Download CCleaner (http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/) first, and run both the Cleaner and Registry scans before defragging.

To do the defrag, I'd recommend Jkdefrag (http://www.kessels.com/JkDefrag/JkDefrag-3.36.zip) - place the JkDefrag.exe in your C:\ then reboot into safe mode, and run it.

Firefox is pretty memory hungry & XP doesn't run well on only 512MB RAM. You're best to get at least another 512MB and that should speed things up a bit.

have you tried www.orcabrowser.com

It is part of the AVANT range. www.avantbrowser.com

AVANT is a front end to IE while ORCA is a FF type browser

I prefer it, you may not, but its worth a try and neither of them affect IE or FF

The AUTOFILL section is streets ahead of any FF equivalent IMHO

I have AVNAT, ORCA, IE6, FF3 and OPERA installed and AVANT and ORCA are my preferences
