Hi Team. I have an older Acer desktop. My son has been downloading all sorts of crap, and then it started freezing intermitently. Tonight, at bootup, a message popped up which said amongst other things "Problem detected & windows has shut down to prevent damage...run a system diagnostic diagnostic...in particular run a memory check and check for faulty or mismatched memory. Try changing video adapters..."
The computer switches on but wont even reboot, so not sure what is going on here.Any help appreciated:annoyed:

See if it boots in safe mode. If it does it may have malware on it, why it wont boot normally

If its got a virus scanner on it scan it in safe mode, if it works

Keep tapping the F8 key on start up when the options come up select the following:

Try starting the PC in Last known good Configuration. Press enter, see if it boots Ok.

If Not

Select Safe mode - if it does load try running system restore back to when it was ok, Assuming its XP - Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/ System Restore.

IF you can get into safe mode with command prompt, type in C:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe Press Enter, restore will load and you can wind the system back to where it was running.

If that doesn't work, try Safe mode with command prompt ( again) - in the black CMD box type in chkdsk Press Enter, let it scan the drive.

ONCE its up and running then it will needed to be cleaned out of bugs infections etc - thats to follow - first we need to get it running.
