My sister-in-law (nearly 80) whose computer I've never seen but from her description has Windows 98 as OS, is frustrated at not being able to properly view pics sent to her that are higher than her monitor's resolution. I don't know Windows 98 - can someone who does please tell me how I can instruct her how to set 'FIT TO SCREEN' for images.

Thanks.

Outlook Express will not fit the pictures to the screen size, I'm pretty sure. Possibly if they are viewed in IE, they will "fit to screen"? I think that is the default setting for IE.

Other than that, she should use a viewer such as XNView.

Have a read of This here (http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20020823.gtsa3/BNStory/Technology/Troubleshooter/), windows 98 is no where as good ( old technology) as todays OS's many things are not backwards compatible.

Saving the Pic first and using a separate program to view pictures would give better results. Irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com/) works well on 98.

Irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com/) works well on 98.

IIRC IrfanView doesn't 'fit to screen' by default either. The problem is that it sets the image size to '100%' be default. :annoyed: :illogical

But IE/Firefox fits them to the screen - may be best to use that as the default app for JPEGs then??

Use a proper pic viewer. Not a browser.

But do you mean she has to scroll around at present to view them? Because
"not being able to properly view pics sent to her that are higher than her monitor's resolution" is fairly meaningless.

use irfanview with "fit only big images to desktop" option.

Yes PCTEK - I do mean she has to scroll around to view large images. Thanks everyone for the suggestions - Irfan 'Fit To View' sounds the best bet. It'll be fun getting her to instal it!
