What is the S.M.A.R.T. setting in the BIOS? Mine is disabled at present. Should it be enabled? To do what?

Its for SMART enabled hdd's

It doesnt matter if its enabled (but helps if the hdd supports it), or disabled

It can't hurt to have it enabled.

Thanks guys, you've satisfied my curiosity. I will give some thought to turning it on.

Some of these BIOSes have had to be updated because they weren't interpreting some models of HD properly. If you put in a drive the manufacturer didn't use, you may strike this problem.

SMART keeps a check on your Hard drive and issues a warning if it thinks that the drive has a problem - time to back up, before it packs up! Can slow booting a little, but worth enabling.
