I am working on a hp pavilion 525c and I had to install a new HD becasue the old one was completely trashed. Igot XP home reinstalled on it and all of the missing drivers except the earthnet controller and the SM bus controller. I have been trying to do this for 3 days now and nothing seems to be doing the trick. can anyone please help me out? I have installed almost every driver on the hp site and that hasnt done anything and I even called them and I got them to say that I am sopl because the computer is too old so they are not allowed to talk to me unless I want to buy a new one and that is not something that I want to do. please let me know if you can help me out, because I am am dying here.

Is this the system ? (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=307863&lang=en)

If it is, it looks like its an ASUS motherboard. But there is no ASUS motherboard, called a7n8x-LA.

You could try the drivers here (http://support.asus.com/download/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us)

Type in A7N8X in the left.

And click on utilities / download the 1.16 XP drivers. It looks like these include the Smbus and ethernet drivers

ok, I tried to do what you said, and I did not get there. I put in the A7N8X and it wanted me to select the type so I selected the one that was just that and it took me to the utilities function and i downloaded both options for XP and neither did anything fot the earthnet or SM Bus so then I wnt to downloads an there was a couple there as well. am I in the right spot, or did I not do something?

Thanks or helping me out with this!

Try this Here HP Site (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=nz&dlc=en&product=296629&lang=en) - its the Pavilion 534A, the 525C could use the same realtek Ethernet drivers, scroll down and download the driver-Network. I have used it on several other customers HP's.

As for the SM Bus controller, I have found that if you do a windows update driver procedure it locates it and installs fine or windows updates then it puts in the correct driver - never had any problems.

If you've installed the drivers, reboot. What does the ethernet entry in device manager say now??

Open the case and see if it says ASUS A7N8X-LA on the motherboard somewhere. It'll be etched the PCI slots

Are you sure the ethernet is enabled in the BIOS?

wainuitech in regards to your post that didnt work and I already upgraded the sp thinking that would grab she sm bus

speedy i am sure that it is enabled because I checked it in the bios and it was working becfore the HD crashed. plus I have it pluged into a switch right now and that is lit up with the light on the back of the tower lit as well. I will turn off the computer and check what the motherboard says. you say thsat it should be by the usb slots??

No, not the USB slots the PCI card slots..

Or try this (http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php)

It may tell you what it is, if the mobo doesnt

If the LED's on the back of the case for the ethernet are flickering / moving, then its working.

You have to configure it

Ok think I have the solution - Maybe ;) According to This site (http://forums12.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?admit=109447627+1217967698534+28 353475&threadId=952621) the drivers you want are here, Nvidia (http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_udp_winxp_5.10) - the whole lot Ethernet, SM Bus

Which sound like the ASUS drivers

Which include:

Audio 3.17 (WHQLed)
Enet 2.81 (WHQLed)
GART 2.78 (WHQLed)
SMBus 2.75 (WHQLed)
MemCtl 2.75 (WHQLed)

Theyre also Nforce drivers

NForce2 all in one version 1.16 driver for WinXP. Due to different naming rules, this 1.16 driver, though named 1.16, is still newer than the one on NVIDIA website. NForce2 all in one version 1.16 driver for WinXP.
