Hi, i keep trying to download a file from the internet but everytime i try, it seems to lock up at one point. And by lock up i mean that it stays stuck at a percentage and it never goes anywhere. It will maybe go to 30 or 40% and than it locks. I've used IE and Firefox and still the same problem. Please someone help me, im confused. :horrified

What sort of file are you trying to download , and where from ?

Is it a normal download from a well known site, or are you using some sort of file downloading / sharing program ??

are you downloading anything else at the same time? Sometimes those direct download break before they complete because your computer isnt able to keep the connection up. (due to other downloading and uploading on the same internet link)

With Rapidshare unless you have a paid account you can only download 1 file at a time if its a multi split file. You're not trying that are you ?

Also try using a file download manager - something like Freedownload Manager (http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/) - sometimes they work better. There's even some instructions on the bottom of that linked page that shows how to use in Rapidshare.

Check the download manager is actually set, open it, select options / Download options (or open the manager, press Ctrl + O ) Under the monitoring tab, make sure FF is selected.

If you are using the free account you select the file, click download, you should get a box pop up from download manager. Select the folder to save to (if not already set) and OK - and down it comes

Its probably the sites / servers youre downloading from.

As it says file not found, its not there

from my understanding, free rapidshare downloads do not allow download managers/download accelerators or resumption of downloads, or downloads starting from partway through the file. Just use the normal firefox one and hope you dont get disconnected.

That sometimes happens if you are downloading something that you are not meant to.

Eg: a pirated movie or music for example.

On the other side of the coin ( so to speak)There are thousands of legal downloads from people as well on those sites.

Those file sharing sites are checked by the people operating them, if they locate pirated data, or data thats goes against the agreement to use the site the file is deleted from their system, hence the "File Missing" Error. There is a possibility your ISP is also blocking the connections. Look at the log times basically 1 second between finding the file and not found ?

free rapidshare downloads do not allow download managersNot fully correct - Yes they do - the restart option does not work.

What is it you are trying to download ? - If its legal post a link to the file and I'll try.

What security programs do you have installed, sometimes if you have a virus or certain spyware on the PC it can affect downloading of files.

See if you can download HijackThis (http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/_download/HJTInstall.exe) - that's a direct download.

If you can put it in a folder, run and save a copy of the scan result, then copy/paste the whole log file here. - Lets see if there's anything obvious.
