Brand new HDD , I,ve just installed Ubuntu Hardy Heron and had it working wonderfully...then it advised me of an update which i allowed it to do..rather a large one. When it had finished it started to install the updates..got to around 95% and seized on the language packs...I left it for 24 hours..nothing. Turned comp off. now we boot and I get to fill my user name and password, then nothing BSOD (except is a brown colour ). Insert the cd and not even the live disc shows... help !!:badpc:

It's likely then that the Hard Disk needs a scan.
Try this, at boot up press ESC,select recovery, then select scan disks let it reboot and rpeat the procedure until no errors are found.

When you get to the login screen, change to console and then redo your updates
