I always turn ours off at night as we are asleep but then there are 3 sometimes 4 machines running in this house

Like wise as Gary - always turn off the PC's in the house, the sound of 3-4 PC's running at night can be a bit annoying, Servers in the workshop never get turned off.

Using sleep or hibernation , can sometimes cause more problems that good esp when waking from that state.

If its an hour or two, I hibernate. Any longer than that and I always turn them all off.

We put 5 of our 6 computers in to hibernation / sleep overnight part from the one in my bedroom as my speakers hum so I turn it off & off at the wall as well.

I always turn my setup (5 pc's + 2 monitors) off at night (can't sleep otherwise!) and off at the wall too.

Hibernation has caused problems for me in the past so I avoid that unless completely necessary.

BTW - does a PC in hibernation use any more power than one that has been 'turned off'?

I thought hibernation only consumes 5% of normal power.

Now there's a point. I generally use Hibernation when I have finished with my desktop. Then switch off at the wall which means everything is dead. I have never had any problems with this action except that when I reactivate the computer the speakers do not work - but they are generally turned off all the time anyway.
