Posting here in case anyone else reading can help.

I seem to be having a lot of problems with this card, tried drivers from 5.2 to 5.7.

I would like to compare with some one that is using this card with Vista 64 and GPU-Z.Fan control Smart Doctor.

System freezes restart smart doctor shows temp about the 90 degC soon cools it down.

1 Gpu-z shows 1a card around the 90deg depends how fast I get it loaded
1b card still in the 40's

2 Normal running 1a temp varies depending on Smart Dr settings
1b temp varies 1 or 2 deg but doesn't leave the low 40's

3 each card shows a different bios
4 There is always an uncertified driver not accepted by vista as being certified
something like ??LowDisp?? .sys

I am useing my old computer at the moment as I am fed up with the new one :(:(

I have also done clean install of windows.

M/B p5k-e.4gig ram.9850 dual core cpu.

I am most interested in being able to get a comparison/answers to my 4 ?'

Thanks for reading and hope that my questions are clear enough to understand.

NB also posted in other forums.

Regards Gramps

Your thread seems to be sliding down the page, so here's my 2 cents.
It's not uncomon for microsoft to say it dosent like a driver.
That dosent necessarily mean it isnt the right one.
Regarding the freeze prob, the event viewer may help.
Also when I set up a new system I start with all default settings on all componants & see how it runs 1st before doing any tweaking.
You didn't say if you had overclocked anything.
With the graphics I would start with only the drivers that come with it & wouldn't run the other software (GPU-Z.Fan control Smart Doctor) at 1st anyway.

Nothing in your post 'specifically' indicates the video card is the cause of your PC freezing, and you 'may' be on the wrong track.

90C is up there but the 3870x2 is a hot card if you read most reviews.

I suggest increasing the GPU fan speed stepping, even run it at 100% for testing. Use ATI tool artifact tester which is VERY good for stressing the card. ATI tool will stress the video card but not so much the processor, so it will be better for elimination than playing a high end game.

Thanks for replies.
Smart Dr comes on the graphic card dvd and if not installed the fan speed stays at 40%.Can't install ati tools as when I tried vista wouldn't let me install as drivers not certified.
No overclocking.

Basically I am just wanting to compare with someone that has the same card.

All was at default when computer arrived.

Supplier changed the 720 Enermax to an 850 Enermax crossfire certified.

Forgot to mention the 3d program for testing gave a score of around 14000.

Maybe I am getting paranoid in my old age(72) They say us oldies are starting to get with it in the computing age :):):)
