View Full Version : Is it just me or is xnet rubbish at nite again?

25-07-2008, 01:52 AM
500kb/s to sydney
544kb/s to San Francisco
3600kb/s to Wellington

It sure looks like it to me and its 1 a.m.

I get better performance during the day by MILES!
On a standard 'dont d1ck with me' plan.

Will be on to support in the a.m. as this is just not on.

I have work to do!

25-07-2008, 02:03 AM
Yes performance is better during the day and some people say if you are on the torrent plan you get slow speed at night

25-07-2008, 02:43 AM
zcc what plan are you on?

25-07-2008, 10:56 AM
zcc what plan are you on?

I am on the old middle plan, unlimited download, upload limit =128, they dont put the name on the invoice so I cannot remember the name.

Speed this a.m. is great, now onto the phone to b......tch about it!

Its a known issue. I doubt Xnet will tell you a lot on how to fix it

25-07-2008, 11:14 AM
So the help desk doesn't know that much about it.

It appears to be the usual.. 'we are running out of bandwidth at the end of the month' excuse.

Wait until next month...

Ok mate I will. Just because I have not kept enough info on the issue until now.

I will try to run a test every nite before midnite and then again at 1a.m. to prove my point that it's cr@p service.

Apparently we can email our test results to help@xnet.co.nz, so I will be doing that.

I did point out to him that having people like myself on the old plan suffer because of these torrent dimwits is not acceptable and is clearly a change to our detriment that we should not suffer. I will carp on about that if this continues.

So email them with your results...
Nobody else seems to be suffering (or cares?) like me...?

Oh btw I get 3500kbps to Sydney this a.m.

Is this proof that they are fiddling something at nite..????
Can there really be that many torrents???
They should ban torrents. (only kidding)

25-07-2008, 11:17 AM
My speeds with Xnet have been consistently crap.

I'll ditch them when I get around to it, but I'm pretty sure they all suck in equal amounts, Well, Slingshot and Xtra will suck more but I ain't going near either.

It doesnt matter if you wait till the end of the month, the middle, or the beginning of the month.

It has nothing to do with the end of the month, it happens every day

It has always been slow getting whatever from overseas. For downloading. Especially at night

It usually happens with me, at night, especially if the file is big. I just wait till the next day to get it. Altho, I dont bother with torrents.

25-07-2008, 12:55 PM
I find torrents d/load much faster at night.

25-07-2008, 11:21 PM
10:30 pm. LA speed 598kbps. Yes, back to crap. After midnight the heavy users have sway but this is 10:30pm, not 1am.

25-07-2008, 11:47 PM

Thats at 11:00pm, so your performance is hard to explain linw.

Will try again at 1:00a.m. but expect d1ck sh1t.

12:30: http://www.speedtest.net/result/300590532.png

I give up.
This is proof enough for me that they are forcing my net service into sh1t to pay for torrent users.
Why would an ISP promote a torrent plan anyway?
To sucker in the little people eh?

I cannot work at nite with this, so i will have to organise my work around it.
Funny but in the old days... daytime was worse than nitetime.
The good old days when I could work on y2k and be drunk at the same time!
My how things have advanced eh?

26-07-2008, 02:17 AM
What sort of speed do you get locally at 12:30 am?

26-07-2008, 08:25 AM
http://www.speedtest.net/result/300745502.png (http://www.speedtest.net)
Central North Island to Auckland.

Central North Island to London.

This with Xtra at 0747

Back to normal at 8:00 a.m. http://www.speedtest.net/result/300758464.png

I will now wait until after the end of the month and rerun my tests.

I expect very little difference (if any).

But I will play the game and expect them to be telling the truth, once the figures show no change how will they explain it then eh?

Must bookmark this thread so I can revive it in 7 days.

So ok, its the start of the month...

And I get... http://www.speedtest.net/result/303506692.png

On Monday I will be on to support asking for a price reduction due to the reduction in service.

Whats the number for the commerce commission again?

Get your line checked. And check the filter on your line

02-08-2008, 09:06 PM
But I get 3500 kbps to wellington so my line is fine..

02-08-2008, 09:15 PM
Yup because it usually affects overseas sites not NZ sites

02-08-2008, 11:56 PM

Taken at 11:10pm.

Not blazing fast, but nothing near as low as what zcc is getting either.

I'm on Xnet Fusion BTW.

Not rocket - like, but similar to local daylight speeds. (Quite a way from the exchange)
On Fusion. Youtube streams cleanly at the moment.
