After installing Windows XP Home and a few other programs on my new computer (about 5hrs work ) I relised I have not partition my 500gb hard drive. So I have one big 500gb or there abouts partition. I want to partition it, so I'm up to suggestions on what to do. Probibly the easiest thing to do is to start all over again.

Definitely not!

Download the Gparted ISO (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=115843), burn it to a cd using ImgBurn (http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download) and boot off it. Partition away!

Yep very easy to do shrink your partition then create a new one in the free space

Or ghost it then repartition.
For safety.

Gparted did the trick. No problems. Took the risk and didn't do a backup. All it meant if it went wrong was a reinstall.

If you have access to a copy of Partition Magic 8 or Paragon Partition Manager 9 you can partition or repartition at any time with no loss of data. I use them often - quick, easy & safe.
