How private are they? Can the Mods read them if not sent to them?

depends on your definition of "Can they"

If you mean "is it possible" then yes, with any of the "read pm" addon hacks for vBulletin - mostly for Admin use, but easy to change permission masks to allow one or more mods to also use it.

here's one of the popular one's "features"

----

Features:

- List PMs separated by sent/received given a username or id
- List all users with PMs
- Search PMs by "exact text", "all words" and "at least one of the words"
- List the latest 100 PMs sent

Not if you use ascii...

unless the ascii "words" are also added to the "Censored Words" pane in the "Group Censorship Options" LOL

interesting too - if you do add ascii 'words' in, when you save it and check the censored words in the admin CP, the 'ascii' word you saved will show as normal text, but will filter only that set of ascii characters and not the word itself, unless you have the word in normal text there too

Similar to that 't-foot' thing you had trouble with a while back!

You could always just remove the words from the list. Don't need to be the admin (http://www.pressf1.co.nz/admincp/) or mods (http://www.pressf1.co.nz/modcp/) to remove it, just, er, encourage (read: brute force) it open (admin and mods, you know I'm just joking).

LOL! - I'd like to know how you would accomplish a brute force attempt on a Admin (http://www.pressf1.co.nz/admincp/) or Moderator login with vBulletin

5 attempts and the account is locked for 15 mins - which means you could run @ 60 combo's an hour.... erm i don't like your chances of a result with that!

No need, port 3306 is open. Bruteforcing that would be a lot easier...

Admins can read members' private messages, although they have to use an unconventional method ;)

Let me clarify this.

There is no wee button in the AdminCP that allows you to read private messages in our setup. So no, we cannot read your messages.

However, if special circumstances arose whereby they did need to view a members private messages, then yes, I am sure one way or another they could be accessed. It is a database after all. This would have to be done by the PC World staff.

That's correct.

Well obviously anyone with database access can look up anything at all, tho that method would be rather laborious.

However, as I hinted at before, 10 seconds to upload 2 extremely small files and then yes, there would be a "wee button in the AdminCP that allows you to read private messages"

Super Administrators only by default (which is changable too of course)
