radium

Trying to decide on a name for my new Black and White Border Collie boy who is only 7 weeks old.
I pick him up tomorrow.

I instruct, compete and train Dog Agility - For those of you who don't know it's similar to Tux Wonder Dogs, but a lot more professional - you could say.

I thought I would start a poll and see what you guys think.

What ever you decide - go out side before you get it, and yell the name several times see if it sounds right - as you'll prob be doing that - don't want some sissy name that sounds funny ;)

My dogs real name is sparkles (because of her eyes) think how that sounds shes barking from behind our gate and you start yelling her name to shut up - real killer eh! - She looks at us sideways as if to say - " how am I meant to sound tough when you call me that"

Picture Lassie. The world's most famous border collie.
Lassie is not a Border Collie. She's a Rough Collie. Borders are much more common and are black and white, whereas Rough Collies are sable (sometimes black) and white, and much rarer when compared to Borders.

Rad: see if you can name your pup with one syllable. Dogs are more responsive and can learn their name faster if the name is one or two syllables. For example, Max, Sam, etc.....my family named our black mongrel Don. Which kinda reflects Brash, as Don is quite clumsy.

Flotsam so if you get a second dog you can call it jetsam

That would be a more appropriate name for a stray dog that no one wanted :D that a well bred working dog. ;)

Aero is cute.

But try yelling that a few times. Sounds silly.
How about just dog, as in footrot flats.

Might as well just make it "Hero" then, as it will sound the same. :D

Sounds good to me. VS, you should have thought of that one though, as you reckon Vista is a bit of a dog..

P.S. That's my Molly as my avatar. People call me Noddy as she is obviously Big Ears.

I second Mutley, can be shortened to Mutt as in Shanai Twains soon to be Ex husband. Mutley was such a cool dog that snicker from wacky races and stop the pidgeon who can forget it.

Lassie is not a Border Collie. She's a Rough Collie.Lassie wasn't a Rough Collie... the name was given to about 12 rough collies trained for the role. ;)

On second thoughts, no, you would have all the Nat's turning up whenever you called the dog. ;)

Only recommendation I gave my step son when he was naming his kitten, he was 13 at the time.

Would you be brave enough to go out in the street at age 16 or older and call it in front of your mates?

He rapidly went off calling it Pinot then

Actinium or Francium :p

I like your train of thought Jamuz, not to long ago I learnt the entire Periodic Table of elements as a personal challenge.

But there'snothing in the table that I really like as a dogs name, as you can tell by my user name here I picked it from the table.
