Not all files can be compressed further, So if its pictures, video, or audio then your out of luck.

Yeah like Metla said, a lot of common formats like .jpeg .mp3 etc are already heavily compressed.

Files like .doc and .xls compress up really well though!

Try 7-zip (http://www.7-zip.org/)

Its free and similar, and may have better compression than Winrar

Winrar is good. Some files just can't be compressed that much.

If you had a pile of Word documents and inf files to send somewhere, they would zip up nicely.

When you say warcraft 3 maps ( please excuse lack of knowledge on this one, I dont play warcraft - no time) what format are they saved in ?

You can almost guarantee the maps are already compressed in some way if they don't come down much more. 7-zip is worth a try though, it's a pretty awesome compressor, especially when compressing many similar files together (such as possibly your maps).

don't bother with winrar whatsoever...it only gives a 45 day trial, and then it's a shareware pay software...just use 7-zip or zipcentral

Or filzip.

You can use it afterwards, as far I know. I only use it for uncompressing files, not compressing stuff, but I just click okay to the expiry notice and carry on.

Yeah, it never seems to stop working...
