View Full Version : Dissappearing HDD....

My wife, who uses XP SP2 wanted to transfer a file from my Mac OSX 10.4.11, plugged in the external WD Passport, and half way through the transfer the Mac reported that she had removed the HDD and the file may be corrupted. Now the fun begins...no comp in the house will now recognize the drive. When I plug it into the Mac it doesn't appear on the desktop, but it shows up in the "About this Mac " menu..??
So my question is..how do i get this drive to show up in either OSX or XP ?

Does it appear in the BIOS on XP?? If it does, format it

Nope, can't see it in the bios.

With the drive plugged in, XP won't go past the start-up window, unplug the drive and windows stats normally. Virus scanned all computers this drive has been connected to, all clear.
May be the drive is dead ?
But the mac sees it, just won't mount it ??
Head scratcher !

If its under warranty take it back, or try the hdd tools by whoever made the hdd. See if that does something

Sounds like a 20 GB hdd I had.

The system wouldnt boot (it said some SMART error on the post screen), when it was connected either. So I removed it, and chucked it in the bin
