View Full Version : RAM CHIPS 3.3V & 5V

I have a problem understanding SIMMS and Ram chips. I have an Aptiva 2176 Z31, and specifications state to use Industry Standard RAM,72 pin, 32 or 36 bit 60 ns tin-lead.

However, I find that some of the actual chips on SIMMS available are rated 3.3
Volt or 5 volt. When purchasing RAM, no mention is made of the voltage.

Does it matter in these cases, as I cannot find any mention to check the
voltage in the IBM specifications.

I have seen articles about DIMMS, and how the older DIMMS are 5 Volts and the newer ones 3.3, but nothing about SIMMS.
My power supply to the motherboard supplies both 3.3 and 5 volts. How do I know what voltage the SIMMS should be?
