hi you probably wont care or notice but i got an old 486 desktop:punk
piccies

http://resistorhelper.no-ip.org/imgs/side.jpg
http://resistorhelper.no-ip.org/imgs/top.jpg
the power and turbo LEDs change colour and the hdd led is blue
just below the 3.5 inch floppy is the lan activity and xfer lights
the CD drive shown in the picture is long deceased i havent been arsed to update the photos, granted the flames look crap and out of alignment, anything beats the old faded beige look
current specs:
~100Mhz 486 cyrixinstead CPU (rare as hens-teeth now)
64MB main dram (four x 16MB simm sticks)
2Mb Vram capable of 1600x1200 at a whopping 256 colours!!! (not bad for WFW3.11)
4 gig HDD with two 2 gig parts (dos6.22 doesnt like 2047Mb) with WFW3.11 and 98 the other 2 gig has NT4.0 SP6
a few 512Mb hdds for other storage and a 40x CD drive...
a 3.5" and 5.25" floppy drive 1.44 and 1.2MB floppies max

other cards and addons:
ISA:
33.6kbps data/fax modem
ESS1869 ISA sound card (works in 3.11):clap
some intel based 10mbps network (3.11 drivers)
SCSI 1 card (massive MF plug on it includes an external plug as well) works in 98 and NT4 and got a few drives working on it but only for testing):nerd:
PCI:
S3 trio 2Mb Vram maxing out at 1600x1200x256 (1024x768x16bit usually the max i'd go but 1600x1200 has sooo much space and makes a dwarf out of 800x600)

i have got wfw3.11 working on a TCP/IP network+broadband too and got it on the intersphere (although 16bit IE5 doesnt render certain pages properly if at all)
it can play MPEG video (VCD's and .mpg/mpeg) and MP3 songs as well :D
i betcha a million big ones a modern (32bit/64bit) virus wouldnt run on 3.11 go on try it you wont win, it barely runs calculator from windows95 let alone a virus designed for 95 upwards

There is no such thing as "randomness" if surrounding factors interact in such a way that they propel an event to occur. In your case, they are 1) your brain notion, 2) presence of PressF1, and 3) the Internet that allow you to post a screenshot of your 486.

There's nuthin' wrong with examining your roots, even if they turn out to be blonde.

It also helps to look back and remind yourself where you came from, which may improve your sense of perspective and help you stop worrying about where you might end up.

Cheers

A 100MHz :D I had one of those, most of the 486's I had my hands on back in the day were either 50 or 60MHz IIRC?

Still, some games ran better on my Pentium 60 than my 100MHz 486...

Oh boy does that take me back. I remember getting a 386, ran at a whopping 30MHz if memory serves. It came with Wolfenstein 3D on it. It ran as fast as the computer I'm typing on now (a P3 box, 256Mb ram, Win2K), if not faster. Methinks "upgrading" is like chasing the dragon!
