I use to run the free Audacity and advanced trial Cool Edit Pro 2; Here's a simple tutorial (http://www.online-tech-tips.com/computer-tips/transfer-audio-cassette-to-computer/) using the popular free Audio editor/recording software Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/). There are other more semi automated/advanced pay for software such as spin it again (http://www.acoustica.com/spinitagain/) or Goldwave (http://www.goldwave.com/)...

You would need a very good original tape to make this worthwhile. Tape quality was never great to begin with compared to Digital and the loose incurred in the conversion IMHO would make it futile.
