Laptop here only operates in Safe Mode. About to do a full reinstall as painfully have backed up everything but figure a HJT scan worth a shot.

Issue started when macafee AV was being updated and the owner bailed half way through. Since then BSOD occurs as soon as user profile is accessed.

There are a couple of minor bugs, BUT the main problem will be McAfee.

Go to This site here (http://www.pchell.com/virus/uninstallmcafee.shtml) - down the bottom are two files / links , Removal tools - one rips McAfee out the other cleans up the reg of left overs. NOTE: it does take a short while for the removal tool to run, DONT stop it once it starts.

IF the PC starts in safe mode, restart it, click start/run, type in msconfig ,in the startup tab, scroll through and locate EVERYTHING relating to McAfee, and untick it. Try to reboot normally, if it does, run the removal tool from that site posted, if it doesn't start normally, try running the tool in safe mode.

Full Instructions for the Removal Tool:

Using McAfee Consumer Product Removal tool:
- Double click the MCPR.exe
- A Command Line window will be displayed, and then close automatically.
- Wait for a second Command Line window to be displayed. Note: Do not double-click MCPR.exe again, you may have to wait up to 1 minute for the next window to appear.
- After the second window appears, the program will begin the cleanup.
- Observe the installation, which could take several minutes. The following message will be displayed in the Command Line window: The machine must reboot to complete the un-installation. Reboot now? [y.n]
- Press Y on the keyboard.
- Wait for the computer to restart.
- All McAfee products are now removed from your computer.

Hi all and thanks for replies.

This morning logged in and PF1 was down so had a play and managed to System Restore laptop back to 1st May while in Safe Mode. No more BSOD :) but noticed that Mcafee was not working correctly which was probably from the earlier attempts uninstall and update. I removed mcafee, then downloaded and reinstalled.

So far all good and no BSOD for couple hours of use, before this it would BSOD within 30 sec.

Now that I have turned back the clock on this machine might just keep eye on it and see how she behaves.

I would install something better than Mcafee. ie: Avast / NOD32

McAfee is in the same category as Norton's - Used to be good, but is now bloatware, and when it plays up (not if but WHEN) can render your whole system useless.

I have seen McAfee disable whole systems, remove it and they work fine.
