I have bought a new case fan - it's cooler BUT it sounds like a vacuum cleaner :groan: (seriously)

Runs at 2500RPM - too fast and too loud!

I have successfully slowed it down using SpeedFan (to 40%) but I have to launch speedFan and slow it down again after a reboot.

Is there a way I can slow it down on boot?

Specs below.

EDIT: Being powered by a 3-pin connector on mobo.

Get a fan controller.

some fans come with a small inline resistor that can be added to drop the speed, I don't know if you can buy them seperately though.

The fan will have either a current or wattage rating so if you felt adventurous you could work out the resistance and buy a resistor to suit and insert it in the +12V wire. A 0.8A fan for example works out to about 15 ohms to half the voltage.

A cheap fan controller is simply a variable restor with a nice front panel.
Some more expensive ones could possibly use pulse width speed control.

Or just buy a slower fan.

p.s. some ASUS motherboards, and possible others, have an option in the Bios to control the fan speed based on temperature. ASUS call it Q-fan. Some only control the cpu fan, but mine (P5K) also slows down the case fan
