Hi guys,

Had a few days to play around with my replacement laptop. Have to say, I am really pleased with the new machine - so thanks heaps for your advice on that!

Just a quick question - the laptop comes with no actual manual and Noel Leemings Upper Hutt don't sell laptop RAM...so I am trying to find out what type of RAM to buy for the laptop? Does anyone know thetype required or is there a resource somewhere that I can use to find out the type of RAM? Its a Toshiba M200/N00 but I can't finds RAM specs online for this model. I have no experience in buying laptop ram, as I have only ever purchased desktop ram in the past.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I can then check out Pricespy for a 2GB stick....

TIA
Andrew

You can get Everest from here:

http://www.lavalys.com/

Run it and it will tell you the memory you have and how much you can put in I think.

Look on the Toshiba site, it looks like it uses DDR2 ram according to the NL site.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies. I think it can take a maximumof 4GB of RAM. However, 2GB will be ample for my use. The machine ships with 2 x 512MB sticks installed.

Speedy, can I just buy a standard 2GB stick of DDR2 laptop RAM and this will fit/work OK? From my desktop experience, there was a few different types/pin counts/speeds etc....those are the detaisl I can't seem to find...

If you can confirm, that would be awesome...

Yep, put a 1x 2GB DDR2 notebook RAM chip in.

Get DDR2 667, or PC25300. (That will probably be whats in there now, have a look or post a pic of the label on the RAM if your not sure.)

You may as well leave 1x 512MB chip in, so you'll have 2.5GB.

There is a model of Tosh, even though it said it would take 4GB, would only take 2GB. I can't remember which model it is though.

Hi Wratterus and Speedy, awesome advice guys, thanks heaps. Speedy, from that site you linked, I can't open any of the manuals etc that are on the site, it just keeps reloading the screen....

I'll grab 2GB of RAM as per Wratterus suggestion and see how we get on... its not to expensive I spose!

Cheap as chips. $60 -$80.

You haven't got a pop up blocker installed do you?

Edit - that page is giving me grief too.

Heres some good RAM.

Sweet deal, no worries.

When you get the RAM, put it in on it's own, make sure the lappy starts (You just need to see a picture on the screen, thats indicating that the lappy has seen the RAM), then turn it off and then put one of the 512MB chips in as well.

It should work fine, but if it doesn't, don't worry, you'll just need to stick with 1x2GB chip. Still will be a good improvement over 1GB.

To clarify, it takes PC2-4200 (DDR2-533) or PC2-5300 (DDR2-667)

Either change all of it or if keeping an existing module then I'd get the same as whats in it now.
