I have a Toshiba A100 Laptop that is on a go slow at present. I've done the Virus check and spywear bits and pieces but only shows up a few small easily cleaned bits and pieces. I've been told the next step is to run and post a 'HiJackThis' log but can anyone tell me firstly if this is a good idea and where does one post this. I've seen a few on here but don't like to just stick it on without checking first. Many thanks for your help.

Hi Newteach,

Download Hijackthis, and put it in it's own folder before running it. Click the 'Do a system scan and save a log file option', and paste the contents of that log in here. With a bit of luck, Speedy will be lurking, and he can analyze it for you.

Just so you know, Hijackthis isn't a normal anti-spyware program, in that it doesn't actually eliminate specific pieces of spyware/adware - it simply examines areas of windows that are commonly used in attacks, and therefore requires someone with specific knowledge to decide what should be deleted, and what is safe.

It's a great tool, but I'd suggest you don't use it to delete anything without checking with someone on here first!! :)

Hijackthis is in my sig if you want it.

Put it in its own folder first then run it. Click on scan the system and save a log.

Copy and paste the log here, and I'll have a look at it.

Looks clean to me, is this a work laptop, and it is connected through a school / training centre? (ie: tki.org.nz)

Put hijackthis in its own folder first, tick these then tick fixed checked

Close browser/s

O4 - Global Startup: Bluetooth Manager.lnk = ?

Uninstall ALL versions of Java, prior to 1.6.0.5, yours is out of date.

Link is in my sig below

Has it been defragged? How much ram is installed?

Does this Sonic cd/dvd program do the same as INCD??

Let you copy / write to cd/dvd using my computer?

Yup is too, hence the relog onto server link that let's me connect to printers and drives on network but remain independant of my profile, if I delete this I'm gonna loose that aren't I?

Use bluetooth - active sync to a pda.....should keep that shouldn't I?

defragged but have recently got rid fo some big software files..will do again.

Sonic does do the same as INCD which, (I may be wrong) is a part of Nero, don't really need it so I guess that can go ? Can't copy using My computer though just Nero.

Thanks again Speedy.

Cool, ok.

You can leave these in if u like

O4 - Startup: re-logon to server.lnk = ?

O4 - Global Startup: Bluetooth Manager.lnk = ?

But I dont know whether theyre actually doing anything in startup. Theyre not pointing to anything.

Thats right INCD is part of Nero.

Nope you cant use Nero through My computer, but you can burn cd's/dvd's using Nero.

Well you burn to cd or dvd now (you need an update for DVD) using my computer. But its pretty limited in what it can do.

Try ccleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com)

Install it, you can untick the toolbar option, you dont need it.

Then run it then click on run cleaner, it may give you some more space as well

Thats right INCD is part of Nero.
Reading a short while ago that there are compatibility issues between INCD and (some?) U3 flash drives
