Hi all, sorry for my ignorance Im really lost when it comes to buying a new pc.
(2001) was the last time and components are heaps better now.

Can you please advise what I should be getting for around $4,000.

I already have a monitor (samsung Syncmaster226Bw) and keyboard/mouse.

Was also thinking of having the op sys on a sep drive ( 36.7Gb Sata Western Digital Raptor 10,000rpm 16Mb).

Appreciate your comments.

Im pretty ignorant, but I think $4,000 can buy you same great stuff, especially if you put it together yourself.

Go to Ascent and Computer Lounges websites and take a look at their systems for that price. You can adjust it to customise to your liking.

$4000 is a lot.

Have a look at PlayTech (http://www.playtech.co.nz) they do a number of high end systems and offer good after sales support.

There have been several threads about purchasing high end computers here over the past few days, have a look in those, they may give you suggestions :D

Ive place my thoughts on high end components in those threads, but when it comes to high end parts, you're paying almost double for only 25% increase in speed in some cases. Just keep that in mind...
