Hi Guys~

Is there a FREE SMART HDD monitoring software out there that I can use?

Any recommendation?

Thanks in advance.

Mine is free...but it is in the BIOS on the SOYO MOBO...I think that's where most of them live anyway.

You might be able to get one depending on your drive manufacturer; I know seagate and western digital have utilities (seatools and windlg respectively).

Or you can use HDtune, but that will obviously not be able to label proprietary data, only its value :D. HDtune is quite good, it monitors drive temps for you if you leave it running in the background.

I'm pretty sure Ultimate Boot CD has the tools from Hitachi, Seagate & WD??

It's a neat bunch of tools to have in any case IMO!! :)

Speedfan has a SMART function. The trick is that disks will fail without ever showing any change in SMART values and even the reported drive temps aren't that accurate.

And some BIOS'es support SMART hdd's as well.

Altho I wouldnt rely on them or programs. Some of them arent that accurate

You'll soon find out if a hdd is knackered, it wont go, or it'll be dead

No idea what it's like, but this one (http://www.passmark.com/products/diskcheckup.htm) is free for personal use.

Thank you guys~

I know the SMART test is in the BIOS, but it only works during POST, since the PC is on 24/7 , this method is not good for me.

I'm looking for a SMART monitoring program that will work inside windows and if it starts to detect some odd activities on the HDD it will let me know before it's too late.

Important data are on mirrored RAID already, just the not so important stuff I want to keep an eye on :)

Thanks autechre , i will give that a try

Cheers

This is good (http://www.oo-software.com/home/en/products/oodriveled/)

Only thing is, it isnt free.

But supports S.M.A.R.T.

This is what it looks like (http://www.imagef1.net.nz/files/ooled1203641416.jpg)

The lights flicker, when the hdd/s are being accessed.

And it also shows the temp
