I tried to add a printer but it says

Operation cannot be completed. The print spooler service is not running

I followed the guide in microsoft.com to restart print spooler by going into
computer management->services and application->services
I selected print spooler and click start
it says error 3, and says cannot find the path specified
I then double click printer services and I see the entry next to
path to execute is blank. I tried to type in the path of spoolvs.exe into it, which is
C:\Windows\system32\spoolvs.exe <---where my spoolvs.exe located
I cannot type anything into it
the line is in grey (but more like a blue) and it does not allow any typing.

I tried to rename my original spoolvs and copy the spoolvs.exe from window XP restore disk, it still does not work. I tried to manually start spoolvs.exe by double clicking it, but nothing happens.

I want to install my lexmarkX2480 printer, please help

Try what it says here (http://help.lockergnome.com/windows/Spooler-Missing-ftopict560408.html)

The bottom post

Start/run, type regedit

Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Spooler.

Looking at the keys in the righthand pane, I noticed that the entry for the path was missing. So I created a new value (right click in the right hand pane, click on "New" and then select "Expandable string value") giving it the name "ImagePath". Double-clicked on this new value and entered the string "%SystemRoot%\system32\spoolsv.exe" in the Value Data field.

Closed regedit and then restarted the machine.

After you add the entry, it should look like this (http://www.imagef1.net.nz/files/spoolsv.jpg)

The highlighted entry.

And it should be spoolsv.exe NOT spoolvs.exe.

If it is or was spoolvs.exe its a trojan.
