I am about to finally upgrade our tiny 20GB HDD to a only slightly bigger 80GB HDD. The problem is i want to make the windows partition on the new HDD and transfer all the data etc. from the old partition to the new one. Also when i plug in the new HDD will it windows autimatically partition it or will i need to use something like disk manager or another type of partitioner to do this.

You'll need something that can take an image of the old hdd.

Or just format the new hdd / install XP on it, connect the 20 GB as a slave.

Then copy whatever from the 20 GB to the 80 GB (except programs that have been installed). Reinstall them

You'll have to go thru disk management if you want to format the 80 GB. Or if you want to reinstall XP, the XP install setup screen, will let you format it.

I've never had to use any. Altho I do have Trueimage, but its not installed.

I just save whatever from my main partition to the other partition, then format it.

And if I format, I just format c, and install the updates from the other partition on the hdd. To update.

Depending on the age of your computer (sounds oldish with a 20gb drive), you may find the chipset will only 'see' 32gb of your new drive.

A freebie I've used successfully before is DriveImage XML (http://www.runtime.org/dixml.htm)
