Have my friends pc here and can't get on the net with broadband,it won't allow a lan (?) to be set up.The ethernet controller in Device Manager showed as faulty so I uninstalled the driver. It can't find the driver on the XP cd and I'm not sure what I have to find on the net.
Ethernet controller properties......PCI/VEN_8086&DEV_1050&SUBSYS_0155128....etc is all I can get out of Device Manager screen, apart from "unknown" and "not configured correctly".
Motherboard info (from SIW)
Intel Pentium4,Socket 478,3060MHz.
Onboard devices
Ethernet(Enabled) Intel Pro 100 VE Network Connection.
Any suggestions please.Thanks.
(Went on line (dial up) with the wizard but it couldn't find any drivers.)
The lights beside the plug on the back of pc,.......top one is green and on all the time, bottom one orange lights up when I plug the ethernet cable in.

What's the service tag and model on the machine?

You need to download it from Dells site.
Look for your model of PC, it will then most likely ask for the service tag as well, then show you the list of drivers.

it's Service tag is HLGF81S which shows up as a Dimension 4600.I've had a look in the network drivers list which at the bottom shows an Intel driver....I'll copy it

Release Title: Network: Intel 10/100 LOM, Driver, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Multi Language, Dimension 4600, OptiPlex 170L, v., A06
Release Date: 12/8/2003
Criticality: Recommended
Description: Intel PRO/100 Network Drivers

the site address
under network tag
Any ideas if that is the correct driver? And thanks.
