Hello members
I have discovered that I can't boot in safe mode.:horrified OS;xp pro, SP2
It comes to a blue screen and says;" a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down.....
Otherwise (normal booting)is all working without a problem!.
Could someone point me in the right direction as to what the problem is?
Thanks

Look in event viewer, what does it say?
And what else does the BSOD say?? Anything about a file or driver?

Apparently others have cured this by uninstalling Neros INCD thing.

When trying to boot into safe mode, does it stall when loading MUP.sys ?
If so run CHKDSK
If you can get into windows ( normal mode ) just type chkdsk at the run command.
I've found this problem several times on PC's ( XP ) that wont boot and crash to the stop screen or continually reboot.
Its usually a bad sector issue ( impending hard disk failure )

Hi to you all
Thanks for your efforts!
As I had discovered the boot into safe mode failure I read on the net of solving this by going through msconfig/boot.ini and check safeboot. What I didn't know was that if I do that and if that is not working I am stuck, and that was exactly the result.
Blue screen with: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down....
"...Stop ox0000007B oxf789E528 oxC0000034... "
I did run chkdsk through recoverey console, also fixmbr and fixboot; none of them helped.
I searched on the net from another PC and found info at MS and it looked like I would have a registry problem.
Anyway, at last I had a Ghost backup that was only 10 days old so I did a restore and am back now.
I have not checked yet if I can run safe mode and will check the info at MS as for the registry.

Have you changed anything recently? Like hardware?

No not that I can recall. Except USB drives for backup but that should not have any effect.
I will check that MS page re the registry and post here later on.
