Or put another way, just in case.

I've gone for DVD-R, after some research.

They do the same thing. Might depend on, whatever you're putting it in likes + or -

I use both, never had a prob.

I had heard on here that one was superior to the other but can't remember which.

Seem to remember one being more versatile?.

From memory DVD+R had a slight edge quality wise but DVD-R was the most versatile.

Most versatile? You can do the same things with both. You use the same filesystem regardless of the physical burning mechanics.

Cicero, without going into detail which I have now forgotten, when I researched this question about two years ago, the preferred type all in all is DVD-R although DVD+R will suffice.

I asked the same question some months ago and the answer given was DVD +R.
Have a look at the site below - has some good info .

I thank you all for taking the time to reply.

it depends on your burner, some dvd burners burn with the best quality (not burn speed) with DVD+R, others, the best quality (not speed) will be with DVD-R.

How would one ascertain that information about the burner itself?

I never noticed any appraisals of either format in my SONYs.
