My son is really into his music and would like to do some recording of his piano playing & singing but after trying several times trying to record using a good mic plugged into our home PC he gave up due to poor quality of sound card. Below are details of our home computer:

Service Tag Chassis Serial Number
Express Service Code 1.2872975001529245e+29
Processor AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+
Processor Speed 2.15 GHz
Memory (RAM) 1024 MB
Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Operating System Version 5.1.2600

Board: ASUSTeK Computer INC. M2V-MX Rev 1.xx
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 0201 09/22/2006

Both the video and sound cards are built-in with the motherboard.

What will be the best sound card for recording that will match our computer specifications? Many thanks.

It depends how serious you are about the quality... Ideally you'd want a mixer or preamp to take the mic and then output to a seperate audio card with a line input.

Or, try a USB microphone, such as a Rhode. The top quality microphone has a USB connector, so you won't need a seperate soundcard.
