View Full Version : 420Mb HDD is now 22Mb

I was mucking around trying to get an old 486 going and inadvertantly booted with 2 HDD set as master on one IDE channel. Now my old faithful Seagate 420Mb HDD is only seen as 22Mb by windows and DOS. I have tried fdisk in DOS and the 'format' command in Windows but it's still seen as 22Mb.
What can I do to get my drive back to 420MB? Any and all help much appreciated.

Thanks,

shaun.

In fdisk, start from scratch by deleting all partitions. Then set it so that the primary DOS partition takes up the full amount of disk space.
Hope that helps.

PS, don't forget to format after fdisk or you won't be able to install anything on it. You may have to use a DOS startup disk to get the 'Format' command. I.E, reboot with the DOS startup disk in the drive, cancel the installation attempt. This will bing you to the A:\ prompt. Enter <format c:\> (without the < >) at the DOS prompt. Voila, you're ready to install whatever. (Win98 not reccommended on a 486)
