View Full Version : Sabayon XP Dual Boot

Using my bros account :)

I am a complete and utter Linux noob, I have barely used it before.

Just installed Sabayon, on a different partition from XP. All good, can boot both OSes, but Sabayon is the default in the boot loader. I'd like to make XP the default.

What do I need to do to make this happen.

In the Control Center, system administration, boot loader (lilo), under operating systems the only entries I have are sabayon linux, the same thing in there twice, no mention of XP anywhere.

Any help would be much appreciated.

You aren't using grub as the boot loader by chance are you? (the default for Sabayon is grub)

Open the file browser, and go to /boot and see if there is a grub folder in there. Let me know if there is

Also, do you know how to use the terminal and how to get root in the terminal?

Anyway, if you read this later and you are indeed using grub
open a terminal, type su -
then fill in the root password and press Enter
then type nano /boot/grub/grub.conf

Look for the line that says default 0
Change the 0 to a 1
Then press Control+X
Then press Y
Then press Enter

This all assumes you only dual boot (boot 2 operating systems). If there is a rescue linux OS listed in grub.conf, you will probably have to change the default 0 line to default 2
