Hi,
I know about spoofing email adresses etc, but I wonder how it happens that recently I am getting email that is supposed to be sent from my email address and contains all kind of stupid ads for Viagra etc, obviously I wonder if my computer is sending out this mess ? Would I be able to find out if I HiJack the comp and ask Speedy to sort out?
What do you reckon Speedy ?

Cheers

Johan

I get that here too sometimes, it most probably happens, when u go to sites and type in your email. Bots would pick it up and use it.

I just delete the email.

You could post a HJT log, I dont think it'll have this in it tho.

You may have some spyware doing it, then again you may just be a innocent victim of This (http://forum.spamcop.net/scwik/JoeJob) There have been a few peopel That I know that this has happened to, If you are with Xtra, it got worse after they changed all their mail setting latley.Xtra claim is a virus on the PC- which it is NOT.

Most likely that a spammer somewhere has at random used your email address which will be creating a few bounces back to your account.

Happened to us a couple of years ago where I worked, our email got spoofed and we got in excess of 16000 bounces over the next few days plus a very stern warning from a ISP unrelated to us that if we didn't cease spamming there network they would report us to our ISP yada yada yada.

Other spam is where the spammer has put your address in both the From and To lines though this is easy to filter using rules or bounces/returns where the message is made to look as if it is a reply to a message from you.

Put HJT in its own folder FIRST. Then run it tick these then tick fixed checked.

Close browser/s.

This maybe nasty

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe"

Safe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SoundMan] SOUNDMAN.EXE

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\jusched.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime

O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe

Uninstall ALL versions of Sun Java, yours is out of date.

Update is in my sig.

I would also get rogueremover, see if that picks anything up.

I had something similar happen to my hotmail a little while back so I changed my password and haven't had any problem since.
