Off hand, does anyone know the minimum specs (of the computer) to run a movie in say VLC or WMP? How much RAM, or RAM allocated for the graphics, is required?

Not sure on min specs, but I am running a P3 1GHz with 256MB RAM and an MX4000 64MB PCI card in one PC and that plays fine...

Do you mean to play a movie or to edit a movie?
I would say that the standard 512MB should be fine for XP and maybe a bit more for Vista to avoid the possible jerkyness although I would possibly suggest using something other than WMP to play one.

Is this for your media centre?

I had a celeron 766 running XP with 256mb ram that I used for DVD playback, she would stutter with the odd compressed movie but generally ran ok.

Though I did get the sh1ts with it and sell it, so it can't have been all that geat.

Tried a dummy run, and it stutters badly (no sound, video changes once every second or 2)
