View Full Version : Quickbooks installation problem with Vista

Hi Everyone

I installed the trial version of Australian version Quickbooks Accounting on my Vista Home Premium PC a month ago, and all worked well for a while.

Then something happened ......!?

Then when I opened Quickbooks, when the Quickbooks window had opened but before I could do anything, I got the error message "Quickbooks has encountered a problem and needs to close ...."

When I install a new copy (have purchased a copy now), I get through the entire installation process successfully, but when I try open Quickbooks, I get the same message as above. If I try to uninstall Quickbooks, I always get "setup cannot find c:\windows\command.com" at the beginning of the installation process.

I have looked at the Quickbooks knowledge base - they address the error, but not adequately. Have tried a MS registry cleaner msicuu.exe, but it doesn't find Quickbooks in the list of things to delete/clean. Am logged on with admin rights.

Would appreciate ANY feedback.

Much thanks

Marc

Have you looked under the Event viewer logs to see if there is a more detailed error message for when Quickbook quits? You can find this by either right-clicking on the "My Computer" icon on the desktop and selecting "Manage" or by going Start > Run and entering in eventvwr.msc.

What version of Quickbook do you have?

Do you have the link to the Quickbook support article that you have referred to?

Hi Jen

Thanks for responding - I am using Quickbooks 07/08 - Vista ready (supposedly)

The Quicken support article can be found at http://www.quicken.com.au/Support/FAQs.aspx (Q10367)

I looked at the event view logs - didn't see anything under the critical errors, but not too sure what to be looking for?

When I open QB, it gives an error file - quite lengthy, but the last few lines are below - can't quite understand it

Thanks for the help - can you see anything else?

Cheers

Marc

Did you try their solution? If you did and that still didn't work then I would contact the support for QuickBook. You paid for this product so they should provide additional support.

Another option would be to use System Restore and roll the computer back to just before the problems started with the trial version. Then try installing your new full version and see if it works.

Let us know how you get on. :)
