Hi

I just got a new laptop, and I want to buy an external TV Tuner for it. I've had a look around, and there are quite a few. I was wondering if any one has any recommendations? Also, will Freeview work with the digital TV tuners?

Thanks

I tried a PCMCIA analog/digital DSE tuner but my laptop (XP) simpy would not see it. Settled for an analog only Genius TVGo USB one, that works well. Found Vista drivers for it as well, so it works on the desktop.

As the digital simply refused to be recognised by my Toshiba I can't comment as to Freeview. What I have seen only works on terrestrial Freeview which we have not yet got here.

Check out the Hauppauge models. I have a PVR 350 and it works fine. As far as Freeview goes the tuners available at the moment are entry level ones, plus limitd free 2 air channels wait a year and they will have MySky type decoders that can record and a heap more channels, OR take a look at Tivo - http://www.nztivo.net which can give the best of both worlds.

What are you talking about? This might be true for set top boxs but any digital tv tuner for a PC can do anything a tivo box can do and more!

If you want a tv tuner for freeview find one that support the DVB-S standard and you'll be fine. Hauppauge and Winfast seem to the most common in NZ, I've used analogue tuners from both and they were fine.
