In Excel 97 is there a way to locate cells that have a link to another spreadsheet?

You can see what spreadsheets have links to the open one by using Edit\links. However, if you see a link that you are not expecting, I would like to track down the cell that has the errant link and modify etc.

I Try:
1.Tools
2.Options
3.View
4.Formulas

II Try:
1.Tools
2.Auditing
3.Trace Precedents

III Try to use the find utility to search for a string (the name of linked file) in formulas.

This can be a real bummer, especially in a large spreadsheet.

To find out which cells are affected, you have a number of options.
First take a copy of the worksheet/book to another location.
In the original, select a smal or large block of cells, go Edit / Copy, then Edit / Paste / Special.

Save the worksheet. Control F4 to close the worksheet, then Alt + F, then 1.
This will open the worksheet again, if the Linked too cells are still seeking an update, you will be asked accordingly, if not, you have narrowed the range range (in your Edit/Paste selection) to those cells seeking an external reference.

A bit messy I know, but it does work.

Cheers....John
