View Full Version : Receiving faxes

Thanks to May Absolute Beginners column, I can now send faxes. However, I have tried to send a fax to my number and the phone just keeps ringing. Do I have to have my computer switched on for it to receive?

I have used norton fax program and you will have to turn on the computer to receive faxes, the same as turning a fax machine to receive.

It is possible to make a setting in the BIOS to turn the computer on when the phone rings, if your modem has that option. I don't know how long a FAX sender would wait while the OS booted and started the FAX programme.

Otherwise, like a real FAX machine, it has to be turned on all the time so it can answer the phone.

But as the question was asked in 1998, do you think the original poster is still awaiting an answer....?

Or did nobody notice the date?

Perhaps the answer arrived by fax?
