I'm after a simple sound card, with 5.1 surround sound but most importantly STABLE drivers! I'm getting sick of my integrated sound and it's unstable drivers.

*** has that got to do with recommending a soundcard?

*** has that got to do with recommending a soundcard? I could say the same about your post :p

I am running a Creative Audigy SE 7.1 in my Media Box and that seems fine, I have never had a problem with it... I am even considering getting another one for the main PC...

Creative X-Fi Elite PRO with all the features, only ~$570

lol

Nah something built on a C-media chip should work fine, or are the vista drivers for those stuffed as well?

You said nothing! You simply said don't use Vista, I'd love to know the percentage of your post count thats actually helpful Speedy.

Any Creative sound cards to avoid? I'm looking at older sound cards from trademe.

If your buying second hand then look at the Audigy 2, avoid the SE and other budget models. (mainly because they are so cheap new that your not saving enough by buying second hand)

If buying new then the Audigy SE 7.1 seems to be the budget card of choice at the moment, Though they look pretty sad to me.

I have been watching the Audigy 2's on trademe over the last couple of weeks, they seem to be going for about $50

I'm using XP.

Then pretty much everything that isn't 16 years old and relies on an ISA bus should work fine, what are you using now that has bad drivers??

I got a Creative Soundblaster live (5.1) I've had no probs with it, but Creative are renowned for the crap that they try to install besides the drivers etc. Really annoying- takes as long to get rid of the rubbish as installing and there is NO option when installing.
