What precautions should one take in regard to the power rating of a PSU?

If I have a 400PSU, could I safely replace it with say a 500 or 600 etc?

What should I take into account if I was to upgrade and why would I want to?

Updating... you can put anything in really. The only reason you should really need or want to go bigger than a 400w would be if you wanted to get a bigger gfx card.

what system do you have and what PSU do you have?

no problem butter bigger in unless its some cheap and nasty brand. quality is as important as size.

You should be aware that PSUs are like the heart of a PC....just be cautious when replacing them.

If there is no need to replace the PSU, then I suggest you don't, though.
