Hey guys,

What's a good, free program that will let me change the dimensions (not the size) of an image (jpg)?

The one in photoshop CS2 is crap, and won't resize the image the way I want.

The image I have is landscape and is 57 (w) by 36 (h). How do I make it so it's still landscape, but taller and thinner (like a book cover)? If that makes sense. I don't want to crop it. The one in Photoshop makes it completely square when I resize it.

So yeah, whats a good free program for doing this?

Photoshop should allow you to resize an image while retaining the aspect ratio. Have a look where you resize for an option to retain the original proportions.

Yeah you wouldn't want to spend any more money after paying so much for a program that you can't operate :)

Try ticking resample and unticking constrain proportions. Then set your new w & h and the image will alter size (and end up distorted).

Three resizers recommended in a Photo magazine are

ononesoftware Genuine Fractals
Extensis Smartscale
Alien Skin Blowup

Not free but the write up showed them doing a great job.

lol, "The one in photoshop CS2 is crap", I don't think photoshop would be incapable of resizing a picture with constrained proportions. Even though you've fixed your problem, if theres anything else photoshop can't do, my website snipshot (http://snipshot.com/) should be able to help.

Just kidding, it's not my website but wish it was.
