hi just wanted a quick opinion.

My household has 3 pcs and 2 laptops, it consists of both a dialup and broadband. I notice that the pcs on dialup always get viruses yet my laptop and desktop on BB dont. I end up rebuilding the machines on dialup all the time. On my laptop of have Symantecs AV corporate edition and zonealarm pro. Zone Alarm pro always seems to stop responding when i shutdown. Can anyone recommend a AV and or firewallthats light on resources? Since i have 2 routers with firewalls in a chain do i really need a firewall for BB?

Dont use Nortons end of story.

I found ZA hung (but the PC did shut down) when I went to shut down too.

I decided to go back to Comodo. (Altho this can block ports too, so I found out).

Use AVG Free or Avast Home.

Well check out their sites and see if theyre good enough.

Avast Home I think is only an AV, which doesnt include anything else (antispam etc).

I dont use either here, I'm using Avast Pro. But this isnt free.

Comodo is ok, well it can be a bit hard to configure, if u have to add rules to it.

Who is your BB account with?
I only had one annoying virus via XP Home when I had dial up (can't remember the name) and have not had any since going on BB.

BB account is with Xtra (yes no comments....... i know). i hav the dlink 502t modem that came with xtra and that has the firewall configured, and i have a Netgear Wgr614v6 router with firewall configured. all BB machines go thru the netgear, then thru the Dlink. I know avast pro isnt free, i just want something i can unify through the house, as it is i hav symantec corporate, AVG free CA E-trust 7.1, and CA E-trust 8 ITM. gets a little confusing since im the only "techie" in the house :-p

No, no. Wrong conclusion.
Its not how they are connecting thats the problem (or what AV/firewalls), its what the user is doing.

Educate them.

I've found Avast better than AVG. examples are friends who's computers were acting strange, AVG found nothing so I gave them a copy and Avast home and BAM it found something.

Avast Home I think is only an AV, which doesnt include anything else (antispam etc).

I'm using Avast home right now and it's currently doing the following for me:

Instant messaging protection
E-mail protection
Network shield
P2P shield
Standard shield

And it can do outlook shield but I don't use outlook.

The shields are just their way of saying that with this function on it will scan all incomming e-mails, or incoming MSN files etc.

Another highly rated yet free AV software title is Avira AntiVir Personal (http://www.free-av.com/). Not as popular as AVG/Avast in the free category but in most cases performs better than both.

A very good, low cost paid one is BITDEFENDER 10

has NZ agent (whom I have nothing to do with)
