View Full Version : email host needed urgently (temporary or not)

I think my webhost has decided to stop hosting my website (and as such my email). I'm not too concerned about the website at this stage, but I need my email (for obvious reasons), so I was wondering if anybody knew of where I could get my domain hosted for email, preferrably local (NZ) and hopefully free :D, even temporarily until I find a new permanent host.

I haven't had confirmation yet from my current host, but they've changed hands, and I have the feeling my current free package is not supported by the new owner.

Can anyone help? Or suggest somewhere/someone to ask?

Cheers,
Mike.

I've got my domain with www.simplydomains.co.nz.
Not free but pretty cheap

Have a look at this:

Hope this helps :)

Well if they were hosting it free, it is probably no surprise that they have gone out of business or are having problems. Hosting is so cheap nowdays, that you should be able to find a host within your budget, even if it is low. These pages have some good ones http://www.netguide.co.nz/Home/Shopping/ISPNetDirectory/Domainnamesandhosting/tabid/114/Default.aspx
(note that there are 2 pages eg click on the 2)

Try http://www.hostpro.co.nz/
That's where I found good rate for my web pages and email.

My minimum fee is 10 bucks per month, which includes elementary website hosting. But you could try Freeparking (http://www.freeparking.co.nz) - their fee for the email service is 50 bucks per year. (Domain name hosting is extra.)

As far as I am aware, they weren't having problems either - they were bought by a bigger company, and I am guessing (still waiting for a reply from the new owner) that the new owner didn't feel they needed to host me for free, so turned off the hosting for my site. So basically at the moment I'm looking for somewhere to host my email temporarily until I've had a chance to shop around and find a good new host (save me making a rash, quick, decision and getting the wrong host just because I need one fast).

I've seen a couple here I am going to look into though.

Cheers,
Mike.

Well I heard back from the webhost this morning. They haven't cut off my account :D They just had a server issue yesterday morning which took down my site. It is back up and running (as is my email). So it looks like I won't be needing a new host just yet.

Interestingly though, I went home for lunch and when I checked my email at home I noticed the guy who used to own the webhost was online, so I chatted with him for a couple of minutes. He said the company changed hands in January, and that there had been probably half-a-dozen emails to webhost clients since the middle of December about it. I had received not a single one. I wonder if they only sent emails to paying clients :D

Thanks for all your suggestions though - when I do get the notification (I assume it'll come eventually) that they don't want to support my free account, I definitely look up some of them as potential new hosts.

Cheers,
Mike.
