I have built a little media center PC using a mATX case and lots of left overs from past upgrades. It goes well except the for the annoying PSU noise. It's enough to be a distraction. Can you get fanless or external PSUs (like laptops)?

I think Thermaltake make one but they are quite bulky die to heatsinks

There are fanless PSUs, good ones, too. But they are rather expensive.

Take a look at some of them on trademe.

Search for SilenX

Rather expensive though.

The auction I linked to are SilenX power supplies. Seems like they're the only fanless PSUs on trademe these days anyway....

It seems that they are not actually fanless.

Well, the 460W and 340W are.....if he's built an old media PC comprised of left over parts, I guess it doesn't consume much power, and the 340W should be enough.

And besides, 14db is hardly audible. To me, at least.
