Going to build a computer for a friend of mine next week. He has decided on using Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4 GHz processor; and an ASUS mainboard. Visited PriceSpy and we are quite confused as to which model to use. His budget is <$350.00 for this board.

Could someone please recommend a 'value-for-money' ASUS mainboard for him.

Cheers

It depends on what he wants on the mobo , like SATA 2, firewire, RAID etc.

And whether he wants onboard video, or whatever.

BUT then the CPU for it, maybe dearer than the mobo,if he hasnt got the CPU already.

Like the cheapest Core 2 down the road is 198.80 inc GST this (http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=185&model=1297&modelmenu=1)

And the dearest is 283.91 inc GST this (http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?modelmenu=2&model=1347&l1=3&l2=11&l3=307)

Thats within the $350. There are others but theyre over $350.

We've not bought anything, yet. Would prefer to have onboard audio but not video as we are looking at getting a PCIE video card. SATA2 is fine but we can go without firewire and RAID.

It seems that both of the links above are under maintenance.

Does he want/need CF or SLI?

They're both a gimmick so I'm gonna assume hes sensible and reckonmend either the ASUS P5B-E or the Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3. If the P965 doesn't tickle his fancy the ASUS P5N-E SLI is also nice.
