My ISP gives me free traffic in NZ and I have just read about pardus linux and I like it.

Is there any chance that one of you knows of a server hosting it in NZ?

I know this is a stretch

Never heard of Pardus Linux, but it appears to be Turkish in origin. What appeals to you about it?

I think you will be out of luck finding a NZ mirror for that distro.

Well I can only hope

From the review I read it has all the tools you want. Seems like Ubuntu with KDE and all the propriatry software you usually need to install like java and flash player etc

and I really like repositories

If you want Ubuntu with KDE and great repositories try Kubuntu. You will need to install extra media codecs, Flash and Java separately but this is easy. Visit http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu_Edgy and follow that guide.

Do this first to get access to all packages:

http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu_Edgy#How_to_add_extra_repositories

Then you can follow these in any order:

http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu_Edgy#How_to_install_Multimedia_Codecs
http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu_Edgy#How_to_install_DVD_playback_capability
http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu_Edgy#How_to_install_Flash_Player_.28Macrome dia_Flash.29_Plug-in_for_Mozilla_Firefox
http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu_Edgy#How_to_install_J2SE_Runtime_Environmen t_.28JRE.29_v6.0_with_Plug-in_for_Mozilla_Firefox

P.S. I don't know where you are but if you're based in Wellington Interface is running an Installfest at Victoria University in a week's time (http://www.interface.org.nz/ifwiki/InstallFest200701). Kubuntu will be the default distribution there for those who don't know what they want.

SimplyMEPIS comes with flash, java, mp3 support, nVidia or ATi drivers right out of the box and looks pretty as to boot! You may wish to take a look at that instead.

Sounds good, so do you know of a NZ download mirror?

I'm not aware of any NZ mirrors. Paradise used to mirror a few distros, but AFAIK, they no longer do.
