If u want to upgrade the 478, you can buy another 478 pin CPU.

Thats if u can find any!

You'll have to find out what the brand / model of the motherboard is, and then find out what it can go up to as in GHZ.

But OTOH if u want a totally different CPU like pin 775, you'll have to buy another CPU and another motherboard. And maybe ram as well.

Do u know what the brand / model is?

its pretty old, but it says it can go up to 3ghz and support HT technology, whatever that means. still i can find some 478 cpus on tm thats pretty cheap and can offer a boost in performance than my 1.73ghz until i build my own rig later on in the year.

This is what HT means (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperthreading)

Only thing is if u decide to get an HT CPU, you'll either have to do a system repair or reformat.

What version of Windows is installed?

As HT only works in 2k/XP + and Linux.
