You could get hijackthis (http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip)

from here (http://www.merijn.org/programs.php#hijackthis)

Unzip this file, on C: So it's in its own folder.

Run it click on scan and save a log. Copy and paste the log here.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot - I would uninstall this and use
real alternative (http://www.free-codecs.com/Real_Alternative_download.htm)

I would also install an AV program and a firewall.

Hi Matt. I suggest you defragment your hard disk drive to further improve the performance of your computer.

I would also like to comment on a remark that you have made:

"It also freezes when on flash and java on the internet."

This is a symptom which I frequently come across whenever I want to upload files using MediaMax's Multi-file upload, which employs Java to do so. I suspect Java requires substantial amount of memory in order to run it. Hence, when your Internet browser hangs while loading a Java application, it could be due to the computer is dumping the data in the RAM to virtual memory so that the particular program can be loaded into system memory.

Hope this helps.

Cheers :)

Fragmentation shouldn't cause "freezing", and Matt has defragmented the disk. Memory problems can, though usually they provoke error messages.

Google for "memtest86" and download an image file to make a bootable floppy or CD. Make the disk and start the computer with it. Problems can depend on the temperature, so even if no problems are found keep the disk and boot from it next time you get the problem.

I really need to find out if it is hardware or software.

I think it might be hardware because the computer is quite old and it got took in to be fixed and they opened up the casing and took all of the dust out but after they did that the pc has been freezing a lot more and some programs that didn't freezes before started to freeze.

hi, if you want to find out if its hardware or software, just reinstall windows, (without formatting the hard drive) it should clean everything up, including refreshing your registry. do this by booting from a windows XP cd, press 'L' to Leave the current file system intact. you will have all your files, but you wil need to reinstal all your programs.

I tryed putting it on a floppy disk but that didn't work. You need to install the file onto the floppy, and not just copy it onto the disk. Instructions here (http://www.memtest86.com/#install). You run the install file from your computer and it will put the files onto the floppy in a manner that makes it bootable.

I think it is the processer that is causing the problems.

More likely to be ram, try reseating it, also blow out the dust in this area, remember to observe anti static precautions and the usual care around sensitive equipment if you want it to continue functioning. Do you have any spare ram, you could try swapping and eliminate or confirm it as the cause for your freezing problems.
